A Longitudinal Analysis on Subjective Health Status and Life Satisfaction in the Middle-Old Aged
Yu Chae-Nam

Abstract
This study aims to examine longitudinally trajectory of subjective health status and life satisfaction of the middle-old aged. In other words, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of initial subjective health status on the slope of life satisfaction and the effect of initial life satisfaction on the slope of subjective health status. The aim is also to identify how subjective health status and life satisfaction trajectory has been influenced by demographic and socio-economic factors. The panel data dawn from Korean Retirement and Income Study of National Pension Service was used and a latent growth curve analysis was conducted with people aged more than 55 years old. The analysis showed that subjective health status and the slope of initial life satisfaction are negatively correlated. The slope of life satisfaction of the people whose subjective health status is high increases more slowly than that of others. And the slope of subjective health status of the people whose initial life satisfaction is high increases more slowly than that of others. In this study, it was identified that the effect of demographic and socio-economic factors as a control variable on the life satisfaction and subjective health status trajectory has similarity with the results of the existing cross-sectional studies but it is not the same. These findings suggest that the relationship between subjective health status and life satisfaction is important for middle-old adults¡¯ active lives. Based on this, political and social Implications are suggested.
